FPSO Swivel Stack Engineering (2014-2015)

FPSO Swivel Stack Engineering (2014-2015)

Bluewater Energy Services

Providing on-site consultancy at Bluewater Energy Services for the development of an FPSO swivel stack, DTRL contributed to the design and engineering of a parallel swivel driver arm; turret-swivel interface engineering and analysis of pressure containing parts of the swivel. Structural integrity assessment according to ASME VIII including fatigue analysis following DNV-RP-C203 were performed by means of Finite Element Modelling.

Used Methods/Software:

  • Structural integrity according to ASME VIII, BV, DNV
  • Fatigue analysis according to DNV-RP-C203
  • ANSYS Workbench/Mechanical

Silencer Design – Structural Integrity & Mechanical Vibration Transfer (2010)

Silencer Design - Structural Integrity & Mechanical Vibration Transfer (2010)

TNO – Kobelco, Technip, ExxonMobil Refinery Beaumont (2010)

Supporting the TNO Flow and Structural Dynamics section, DTRL was involved in the mechanical vibration analysis for optimizing the acoustic design of a new 2nd stage discharge silencer for the Kobelco-made vent gas compressors at the ExxonMobil refinery in Beaumont, Texas. The mechanical response analysis focuses on the silencer resistance to fatigue failure.
The analysis is performed with a finite element model of the entire silencer, discharge piping including supporting and spool piece. In the finite element model pressure data from a 3D acoustic analysis, performed in COMSOL, is used as input. On the model a harmonic response analysis is performed in which the cyclic stresses are extracted. The stresses are combined into stress range frequency response spectra which are compared with the allowable stress level for fatigue.

Used Methods/Software:

  • Harmonic response analysis
  • Fatigue analysis according to PD 5500; ASME Boiler and Pressure Vessel Code, Section VIII-DIV 2
  • ANSYS Workbench/Mechanical
